There is no doubt that mosques have a great status in Islam, as it is like a house of worship and houses of Allah Almighty, in which prayers are held and the Qur’an is studied and legal sciences are studied. Therefore, it is of great importance, and there are mosques that have a very great status. According to Quran Spirit Islamic tutors, there are some etiquette and dua for entering masjid that the Muslim must adhere to and learn about before entering the masjid.
Dua for Entering Masjid in Arabic
The Messenger of Allah – may Allah prayers and peace be upon him – explained some etiquette related to the entry of a Muslim into the masjid, so he urged the Muslim to enter it with his right foot and recite dua for enter masjid.
As the Sunnah of the Prophet came with a number of honorable prophetic hadiths that explain the dua for entering masjid, and the following are mentioned in these hadiths:
1- What was narrated on the authority of Abu Humaid Al-Saedi – may Allah be pleased with him – where he said: The prophet Peace Be Upon Him said:
إذَا دَخَلَ أَحَدُكُمُ الْمَسْجِدَ فَلْيُسَلِّمْ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ لِيَقُلْ: اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ. فَإِذَا خَرَجَ فَلْيَقُلْ: اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ
2- What came on the authority of Abdullah bin Omar – may Allah be pleased with him – where he said on the authority of the Prophet:
كان إذا دخل المسجدَ قال أعوذُ باللهِ العظيمِ وبوجهِه الكريمِ وسلطانِه القديمِ من الشيطانِ الرجيمِ
3- Narrated Anas bin Malik – may Allah be pleased with him – on the authority of the Messenger of Allah – may Allah bless him and grant him peace -:
كانَ إذا دخلَ المسجدَ قال: بسمِ اللهِ، اللهمَّ صلِّ على محمدٍ، و أزواجِ محمدٍ
Dua for Entering the Masjid and Leaving
It was reported on the authority of the Messenger of Allah – may Allah bless him and grant him peace – many formulas of dua for leaving masjid, including the following:
1- “I heard Abu Humaid and Abu Usaid say: ‘The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: “When any one of you enters the Masjid, let him say: ‘Allahumma aftahli abwaba rahmatik (O Allah, open to me the gates of your mercy). And when he leaves let him say: Allahumma inni as’aluka min fadlik (O Allah, I ask You of Your bounty).’.
2- The Messenger of Allah said: “When anyone enters the mosque, let him send peace upon the Prophet, then let him say: ‘Allahumma aftahli abwaba rahmatik (O Allah, open to me the gates of Your mercy).’ And when he leaves, let him send peace upon the Prophet and say: ‘Allahumma- simni minash-shaitanir- rajim (O Allah, protect me from the accursed Shaitan).”
3- When any of you enters the mosque he should say, “O Allah, open to me the gates of Thy mercy, “and when he goes out he should say “O Allah, I ask Thee out of Thine abundance.” Muslims transmitted it.
4- Fatima daughter of al-Husain said on the authority of her grand-mother, Fatima the elder,* that when the Prophet entered the mosque he would pray for blessings and safety for himself and say, “My Lord, forgive me my sins, and open to me the gates of Thy mercy.”.
And when he went out he would pray for blessings and safety for himself and say, “My Lord, forgive me my sins, and open to me the gates of Thy abundance.”.
How Do You Enter a Mosque?
Masjids have great importance in the hearts of Muslims, and even non-Muslims. They have a special sanctity for people, as they are the nucleus of the Islamic conquest.
And the nucleus of a local council that is based on researching the matters, concerns, and problems of people.
Moreover works to overcome difficulties and bridge the distances between members of society. As the masjid has etiquette for entering and praying in it, which are as follows:
1- Say” Assalamualaikum” to Other Muslims in the Masjid:
One of the etiquettes that a Muslim must take care of is returning the greeting, especially when entering the masjid. He must greet those who are present in it.
2- the Muslim Should Not Have Eaten Garlic or Onions When He Goes to the Masjid:
As some foods, such as garlic and onions, remain in the mouth of a person and emit unpleasant odors that harm those around him
3- Performing the Masjid Greeting:
The greeting of the mosque is one of the desirable things to do when entering it, and the Muslim has nothing to do if he sits and does not perform it, and the Muslim can perform it when he forgets it if he remembers it.
4- Wearing Beautiful Clothes:
The Muslim must be keen to wear everything that is beautiful and clean and to make sure of his appearance when he goes.
And enters the masjid, away from all extravagance, and in that is in compliance with the command of Allah Almighty in His Holy Book. As Allah said:
خُذُوا زِينَتَكُمْ عِنْدَ كُلِّ مَسْجِدٍ
5- Entering the Masjid with the Right Foot:
One of the etiquettes of a Muslim when entering a masjid is that he should enter with his right foot and exit with his left foot.
6- Reading the Dua for Entering Masjid:
it is proven from the Messenger – may Allah prayers and peace be upon him – that it is mustahabb to supplicate if a Muslim enters.
And the evidence for that is his saying – may Allah prayers and peace be upon him -: When any of you enters the mosque he should say, “O Allah, open to me the gates of Thy mercy, “and when he goes out he should say “O Allah, I ask Thee out of Thine abundance.” Muslims transmitted it.
7- Take Off Your Shoes Before Entering:
The Prophet – may Allah prayers and peace be upon him – prescribed for us to pray in shoes if they are pure and do not harm others.
But Muslims are accustomed to taking off their shoes when entering the mosque in order to preserve the cleanliness of the masjid and its bedding from damage, and this matter is legitimate.
8- Not Speaking Idle Talk:
It is etiquette to warn against false and forbidden speech, whether in the masjid or other places or to be distracted by worldly conversations.
A Muslim must follow the example of the Companions – may Allah be pleased with them – as they were preoccupied with remembrance and the Qur’an.
9- Not to Harm Any of the Worshipers or Raise Their Voices in the Masjid
A Muslim must adhere to the recommended Sunnahs in the masjid, he must respect the masjid etiquette and not cause harm even if it is by referring to it.
just as it is not desirable to raise the voice while reading the Qur’an in the masjid and the Muslim must read in a voice that does not cause embarrassment to those around him.
10- Staying in the Masjid Until the Time for Prayer Ends
Remaining in the masjid after completing the prayer is one of the great things that Muslims do, so they worship by reading the Holy Qur’an and remembering.
And it must be noted that he did not condemn those who left the masjid immediately after completing the prayer, but the Muslim should be keen to increase the good in his work And get closer to Allah more with mustahabb.
11- To Sit Upright in the Masjid, and Not Sleep in It
A Muslim should sit upright to avoid drowsiness while sleeping in the mosque, for what the Prophet, may Allah prayers and peace be upon him, forbade. Mu’adh b. Anas said that the Prophet forbade sitting on Friday with a cloth tied around the back and legs while the imam is preaching. Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud transmitted it.
In conclusion
The masjid has an etiquette that a Muslim must observe, and among this etiquette is dua for entering masjid and dua for leaving masjid, as there were many hadiths of the Prophet that urge the Muslim to repeat the dua for entering the masjid.
