Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Rajioon It is considered a reward for everyone who says it believing in it, and I refer to the Almighty’s saying:
«الَّذِينَ إِذَا أَصَابَتْهُم مُّصِيبَةٌ قَالُواْ إِنَّا لِلّهِ وَإِنَّـا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعونَ أُولَئِكَ عَلَيْهِمْ صَلَوَاتٌ مِنْ رَبِّهِمْ وَرَحْمَةٌ وَأُولَئِكَ هُمُ الْمُهْتَدُونَ»
And among inna lillahi wa ilayhi rajioon benefits:
1- That the servant remembers in the event of his affliction that he will return to Allah and that he will one day stand in Allah’s hands, and that Allah – the Mighty and Sublime – will hold him accountable and ask him about what he said and gave in this life.
And this is understood from his saying: (وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ), and the wise man if he remembers his return to Allah is the best saying And do the best work and stay away completely away from abuse in his words or deeds.
2- Al-Qurtubi said: Allah made these words, which are his saying – the Almighty: (inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun) a refuge for those who have calamities, and protection for those who are tested, for what they collected of blessed meanings, for his saying {inna lillahi} is unification.
And an acknowledgment of slavery and sovereignty, and his saying (wa inna ilih rajion) is an acknowledgment of doom On ourselves and the resurrection from our graves, and the certainty that the whole matter will return to Him as it is to Him.
inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajioon meaning
There are several Tafseer and meanings mentioned for saying inna lilahi wa inna ilayhi raji un:
1- Tafsir Ibn Kathir:
It was stated in the Tafseer of Ibn Katheer that this saying carries the meaning of entertainment for the one who suffers from the calamity, and an acknowledgment that we belong to Allah, who does whatever He wants with us, and faith in returning to Him on the Day of Resurrection.
2- As for Al-Qurtubi:
It is clear that in this verse there are six issues:
A- The first issue: the calamity So calamity is linguistically all that harms and afflicts a person, as evidenced by the authentic hadith that was brought out by Muslims on the authority of Abu Saeed and Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with them both.
That they heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, say: What afflicts a believer in terms of illness, fatigue, disease, or grief, even anxiety that concerns him, is nothing but the blasphemy of his faults.
B- The second issue: The believer has a reward whenever he recovers
With the evidence of the hadith of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, on the authority of Fatima bint Al-Hussein, on the authority of her father, he said:
The Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: Whoever is afflicted with a calamity, then he mentions his calamity and brings it back, and if its time has expired, Allah will write for him a reward similar to it on the day he was afflicted.
C- The third issue: the greatest calamities The misfortunes in which a person tests are varied, Allah says in his dear book: Al -Baqara – Verse 155:
وَلَنَبْلُوَنَّكُم بِشَيْءٍ مِّنَ الْخَوْفِ وَالْجُوعِ وَنَقْصٍ مِّنَ الْأَمْوَالِ وَالْأَنفُسِ وَالثَّمَرَاتِ وَبَشِّرِ الصَّابِرِينَ
A person may be tested by his security, and he may be tested by his livelihood, and he may be tested by his health, and he may be tested by the loss of a relative, but the greatest exams and the greatest calamities are the calamities in religion.
Therefore, the death of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, was one of the greatest calamities, as his death cut off revelation and prophecy, and cut off goodness.

D- The fourth issue: the meaning of retrieval. Retrieval is divided into two parts:
- The first: Acknowledgment of servitude to Allah Almighty in our saying: (inna lillah).
- The second: is an acknowledgment of our destruction and our resurrection after death from the graves, and that all our affairs are in the hands of Allah and return to Allah.
E- Fifth issue: Good news for the patient. It became clear through the hadiths of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, that whoever says, “inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji un”.
Either Allah will compensate him for what he took from him in his life, as happened with Umm Salama, on the authority of Umm Salama, the wife of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
That she said: I heard the Messenger Allah, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, says: “There is no calamity that befalls a servant, and he says, “We belong to Allah, and to Him, we shall return. O Allah, reward me for my calamity and replace it with something better for me.”
Umm Salamah said: “When Abu Salamah died, Allah resolved for me, so I said: Oh Allah, reward me for my calamity and replace it for me with something better than it.” So Allah replaced the Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, for me.
Or he will exchange it for his patience with a great reward in the Hereafter.
F- The sixth issue: prayers and mercy
Allah Almighty says in the verse that follows:
“أولئك عَلَيْهِمْ صَلَوَاتٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِمْ وَرَحْمَةٌ وَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْمُهْتَدُونَ” Al-Baqarah/157.
Allah, Glory be to Him, has bestowed three blessings on the patient and those who are restored:
- Prayers: Prayers are from Allah Almighty for forgiveness and good praise.
- Mercy: mercy reveals distress and eliminates the need.
- Guidance: It is a bonus for the believer.
3- As for al-Tabari:
He said about the meanings of ina lilah waina allah rajiun, when the believer is restored, he acknowledges his faith that all blessings are from Allah alone, and servitude is for Allah alone.
4- Ibn Ashour:
He believes that retrieval is an affirmation of the meaning of patience, as belief is strengthened by declaring, but this statement also has no value if it is not emanating from the human conscience.
And he fully believed in it, and he is not rewarded for it if it is just wanting to speak and his soul is indignant about Allah’s judgment and destiny.
5- Tafseer of Tantawi:
As for Al-Tantawi’s Tafseer of this verse, he came together with the previous meanings, except that he added that sadness, when calamity befalls, does not contradict patience and recovery.
It came on the authority of the beloved Chosen One, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, that he wept at the death of his son Ibrahim.
And he said: “The eyes shed tears, and the heart grieves, and we only say what pleases our Lord, and I am saddened by your separation, O Ibrahim.”
Rather, patience is incompatible with anxiety leads to denying the wisdom of Allah’s judgment, and doing what Islam has forbidden, such as slapping and wailing.

His saying, Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Rajioon was mentioned in Surah Al-Baqarah. In addition to that, there are many hadiths of the Prophet that included it, including the following:
Umar bin Abu Salamah narrated from his mother, Umm Salamah, that the Messenger of Allah (saws) said:
“When a calamity strikes one of you, then let him say: ‘Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return. O Allah, I seek reward with You for my affliction, so reward me for it.
And replace it for me with something better (Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji nn, Allāhumma `indaka ahtasibu musibati fa’jurni fiha wa abdilni minha khair).’ When the time of death was near Abu Salamah, he said:
‘O Allah, replace me for my wife, with someone better than me.” So when he died, Umm Salamah said: “Indeed, to Allah we belong, and to Him we shall return. I seek reward with Allah for my affliction, so reward me for it.”.
حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَاصِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أُمِّهِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ” إِذَا أَصَابَ أَحَدَكُمْ مُصِيبَةٌ فَلْيَقُلْ :( إنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ ) اللَّهُمَّ عِنْدَكَ احْتَسَبْتُ مُصِيبَتِي فَأْجُرْنِي فِيهَا وَأَبْدِلْنِي مِنْهَا خَيْرًا ” . فَلَمَّا احْتُضِرَ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ اخْلُفْ فِي أَهْلِي خَيْرًا مِنِّي فَلَمَّا قُبِضَ قَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ : ( إنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ ) عِنْدَ اللَّهِ احْتَسَبْتُ مُصِيبَتِي فَأْجُرْنِي فِيهَا . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ . وَرُوِيَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ مِنْ غَيْرِ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَأَبُو سَلَمَةَ اسْمُهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَسَدِ

وَبَشِّرِ الصَّابِرِينَ الَّذِينَ إِذَا أَصَابَتْهُمْ مُصِيبَةٌ قَالُوا إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ أُوْلَئِكَ عَلَيْهِمْ صَلَوَاتٌ مِنْ رَبِّهِمْ وَرَحْمَةٌ وَأُوْلَئِكَ هُمُ الْمُهْتَدُونَ

Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Rajioon It includes, as the scholars say, two great principles that if the afflicted person knows them, the severity of what he has been afflicted with will be alleviated for him:
1- The first: That he knows the afflicted and is certain that himself, his family, his money, and his son truly belong to Allah Almighty, and that Allah Almighty has lent it to him and made it with him. time to enjoy it.
And if a person was before he was born non-existent, and after he dies he will be non-existent, and if Allah Almighty is the one who created him from non-existence.
Then everything he possesses is not his real possession and he has no effect on it, rather it is the possession of the one who created him from this non-existence.
And a person disposes of it not the behavior of the owner, but rather the behavior of the slave who is enjoined by action and forbidden from another.
And for this reason, it is not permissible for him to dispose of it except in accordance with the orders and prohibitions of the true owner, who is Allah Almighty, so how can he grieve over the loss of something that he does not originally own?
2- The second: is that man’s destiny and reference is to Allah Almighty, and that he must leave the world behind his back, and his Lord will come on the Day of Resurrection as an individual.
As He created him the first time, without family, money, or children, but He will bring him good and bad deeds only.
So if this is the beginning and the end of the servant How can he rejoice over a child, money, or other worldly goods, and how can he grieve over a loved one who has lost him or the money he has lost?
hadith inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajioon
There are some hadiths that show the virtue of saying, “Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Rajioon” We mention the following:
1- Umar bin Abu Salamah narrated from his mother, Umm Salamah, that the Messenger of Allah (saws) said:
“When a calamity strikes one of you, then let him say: ‘Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return. O Allah, I seek reward with You for my affliction, so reward me for it, and replace it for me with something better

2- It was narrated that Ibn Abbas said: “When the Prophet was expelled from Makkah, Abu Bakr said to him: ‘They have driven out their Prophet, verily to Allah we belong and to Him we return. They are surely doomed.’ Then it was revealed: ‘Permission to fight (against disbelievers) is given to those (believers).
Who are fought against, because they have been wronged; and surely, Allah is able to give them (believers) victory.’ Then I knew that there would be fighting.” Ibn Abbas said: “This is the first Verse that was revealed concerning fighting.”

Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Rajioon has great merit and a great benefit for the Muslim, as it is like a dhikr. In addition to that, it was stated, “inna lilahi wa inna ilayhi raji un” in the Holy Quran in Surat Al-Baqarah, as there were many hadiths that show the virtue of repeating it.
