dua between two sujood

Dua between two sujood is one of the Sunnahs established on the authority of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, as several hadiths have been proven from him in this regard.

Moreover, the scholars differed regarding the ruling on dua between 2 sujood. As the majority of scholars are of the view that this dua is desirable and is not part of obligatory prayers.

The Hanbalis are of the view that it is obligatory for the Prophet, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, to persevere in dua in between 2 sujood

And because all acts of prayer are not devoid of the remembrance of Allah, and all of these remembrances are obligatory, so the ruling on dua between sujood is the same.

In addition, dua between two sujood has a great virtue, and below we will learn about this virtue and the prophetic texts contained in the virtue of this dua.

dua between two sujood in English

The Sunnah for dua between two sujood is to say:

Lord forgive me, Lord forgive me, and repeat that, and it is also prescribed for him to say: Oh Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, guide me, force me, provide for me, and keep me well.

But it is necessary to ask for forgiveness between the two prostrations, and that is obligatory according to a gathering of the people of knowledge, and at least that is once, and if that is repeated, Lord forgive me, Lord forgive me thrice, that is better, and if it is more than that.

Then he says: Oh Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, guide me, force me, provide for me, and protect me, that is better. Also, if he supplicates for himself and for his parents, he says: O Allah, forgive me and my parents, O Allah, have mercy on me, my parents, and the Muslims.

dua between two sujood hadith

There are many hadiths that state the virtue and method of dua in between 2 sujood, and among these hadiths are the following:

1- It was narrated that Ibn ‘Abbas said:

“The Prophet (SAW) drew back the curtain when the people were in rows behind Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, and said:

‘O people, there is nothing left of the features of Prophethood except a good dream that a Muslim sees or is seen by others for him.’

Then he said: ‘Verily, I have been forbidden from reciting the Qur’an when bowing or prostrating. As for bowing, glorify the Lord therein, and as for prostration, strive hard in supplication for it is more deserving of a response.'”

2- Ali b. Ali Talib said:

When the Messenger of Allah (saws) stood up for (offering) obligatory prayer, he uttered the takbir (Allah is most great) and raised his hands opposite to his shoulders, and he did so when he finished the recitation (of the Qur’an).

And when he was about to bow; and he did like that when he raised (his head) after bowing. He did not raise his hands in prayer when he was sitting. When he stood at the end of two rak’ahs, he raised his hands in a similar way and uttered the takbir and supplicated in more or less the same manner as narrated by ‘Abd al-‘Aziz in his version.

This version does not mention the words “All good is in Thy Hands and evil does not pertain to Thee.” And this adds: He said when he finished the prayer: “O Allah, forgive me my former and latter sins, my open and secret sins; Thou art my deity; there is no Allah but Thee.

In Conclusion,

dua between two sujood is of great importance and virtue in Islam, as the Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, explained, and some hadiths clarified how to recite dua between sujood.
