Iqlab in tajweed is one of the rulings of the nun sakinah and tanween, but what exactly is the reason for the iqlab? Where the scholars explained that the iqlab tajweed is represented by the difficulty of bringing up the idgham. And izhar of the nun sakinah or tanween if the letter ba comes after them; and this is due to the difference between the way out of the letter Baa and the way out of the letter of noun sakinah.
Moreover, some may wonder why the noon sakinah and tanween were changed to a meme and not to another letter? The answer to this is represented by the similarity of the letters “meem” and “baa” in the director’s letter and in the attributes, so we will learn about the rule of tajweed iqlab in detail through the coming paragraphs.
Iqlab In Tajweed
Iqlab in tajweed is one of the provisions of the noun sakinah and is defined linguistically as: conversion, but idiomatically it is: placing a letter in another place, taking into account ghunna and ikhfaa in the inverted letter. And what is meant by the inverted letter here is the nun sakinah or the inverted tanween meem.
As the iqlab tajweed has one letter, which is the baa’, so if the baa occurs after the nun sakinah, whether in a word or in two words, the nun must be turned into a hidden meem, and the same applies to the tanween, and that is in the Almighty’s saying:
كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمْ يَنتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًا بِالنَّاصِيَةِ
Tajweed iqlab is called by this name for the inversion of the nun sakinah, tanween, and the following is taken into account in how to perform iqlab:
- The nun sakinah, tanween, or nun taukid khafifa is changed to a pure meme in the pronunciation without the calligraphy, taking into account that no trace of the nun or tanween remains.
- The meme that is inverted from the nun or tanween must be hidden in the rule of iqlab.
- Showing the ghunna with ikhfaa by two movements, and the ghunna here is the inverted meem adjective, not the adjective nun or tanween.
Rules of Iqlab in Tajweed
According to Quran Spirit Iqlab in tajweed can only be achieved by three actions, which are as follows:
- The first: Reversing the nun sakinah or tanwin or the nun taukid khafifa to meme purely verbally and not in error, so that no trace remains after that of the sakinah, mokadda and tanween.
- The second: ikhfaa this meme at the baa.
- The third: Izhar ghunna with ikhfaa
Iqlab tajweed is also indicated in the drawing of the Qur’an by placing a small mem above the “noun sakinah” followed by a “ba”, indicating its inversion by a meme. As for tanween, one of the two movements is drawn, followed by a small meem.
As iqlab also have three types:
The first :
- The baa is located after the noon sakinah in a word such as:
أَنْبِئْهُمْ
- The second: the “baa” occurs at the beginning of the second word, and the “noun” is at the end of the first word, such as:
مِنْ بَيْنِهِمْ
- The third: Ba’ is at the beginning of the second word, and the tanween is at the end of the first word, such as:
عَلِيمٌ بِذَاتِ الصُّدُورِ
Iqlab Examples
There are four types of tajweed iqlab in the Holy Quran:
1- Examples of Iqlab in One Word:
The letter of iqlab, which is (baa), may combine with the “nun sakinah” in one word, then the reader inverts the “nun” into a meme when pronouncing it. There are many examples of this in the Holy Qur’an, including what came in the following verses:
- Allah Almighty said: ((قَالَ يَا آدَمُ أَنبِئْهُم بِأَسْمَائِهِمْ); The “Nun sakinah” and “Baa” have come together in the word “أنبئهم”.
- Allah Almighty said: (كَلَّا لَيُنْبَذَنَّ فِي الْحُطَمَةِ); As in the word لَيُنْبَذَنَّ from the meeting of the nun Sakinah with the ba in the same word.
- Allah Almighty said: (يُنْبِتُ لَكُمْ); As in the word يُنْبِتُ, where the “Nun sakinah” and “Baa” came in one word.
2- Examples of Iqlab in Two Words:
as one of the types of iqlab is that the letter “Nun” or “Tanween” comes in one word, and the letter “Baa” comes in another word. Examples of the rule of iqlab in two words are what came in the following verses:
- Allah Almighty said: (مِن بَعْدِ وَصِيَّةٍ يُوصَىٰ بِهَا); Where the nun came sakinah in a word, and the ba in a separate word.
- Allah Almighty said: (وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِذَاتِ الصُّدُورِ); Tanween followed by the letter Baa’ in the next word.
- Allah Almighty said: (وَمِن بَيْنِنَا وَبَيْنِكَ حِجَابٌ); The static letter “Nun” came in one word, and the “Iqlab” letter came in the other word.
3- Examples of Iqlab in the Noun Sakinah:
(فَكَانَتْ هَبَاءً مُنْبَثًّا)
(وَالصَّاحِبِ بِالْجَنبِ)
(وَأَمَّا مَنْ بَخِلَ وَاسْتَغْنَى)
{وَلِيَكُونًا مِنَ الصَّاغِرِينَ}
{لَنَسْفَعًا بِالنَّاصِيَةِ}
4- Examples of Iqlab in Tanween:
the Iqlab occurs at the advent of Tanween Fath, or Tanween Kasra, or Tanween Dam, and then the letter Ba follows it, as in the following examples:
-
Allah Almighty said: (واللهُ سَمِيعٌ بَصِيرٌ).
-
Allah Almighty said: (ذُرِّيَّةً بَعْضُها مِنْ بَعْضٍ), as it was mentioned in the noble verse, intending to tanwen fath, and then the letter B after it.
-
Allah Almighty said: (وأنبتنا فيها مِن كُلِّ زَوْجٍ بَهِيجٍ), and iqlab here came in tanwen kasr due to the advent of the letter Baa after it.

Ghunna in Tajweed
Ghunnah refers to the sound made by the throat when pronouncing certain letters in Arabic. It is a small hum or murmur that is made while pronouncing the letter “Qaaf” (ق) and it is important to pronounce it correctly while reciting the Quran.
Ghunnah is one of the important aspects of Tajweed, as it helps in correct pronunciation of the Quran, it’s an additional sound that comes from the throat and it is not a letter by itself. Ghunna is added to the letter of Qaaf to give it a unique sound, which differentiates it from the letter “Kaaf” (ك). The Ghunnah is considered as an important part of Quranic recitation, and it is essential for those who want to recite the Quran correctly.
What Is Iqlab Noon Saakinah?
The ruling of tajweed iqlab is when a “Nun sakinah” comes, followed by the letter “Baa” iqlab, whether they come together in one word, or the “Nun sakinah” in a word separates and the “Baa” in another word, and the examples of iqlab after noun sakinah:
-
Allah Almighty said: (وَأَمَّا مَنْ بَخِلَ وَاسْتَغْنَى),as the Baa came after Noun sakinah.
-
Allah Almighty said: (فَلَمَّا جَاءَهَا نُودِيَ أَن بُورِكَ مَن فِي النَّارِ), as the Baa came according to the letter Nun sakinah.
-
Allah Almighty said: (لَنَسْفَعَا بِالنَّاصِيَةِ), and the nun here is not an nun aslia, but rather it is the noun taukid khfifa whose rule is attached to the nun aslia.
And it was drawn in the Qur’an as a tanween, and this nun was not mentioned in the Holy Qur’an except in this place in Surat Al-Alaq.
-
Allah Almighty said: (فَكَانَتْ هَبَاءً مُنْبَثًّا), In the aforementioned word, a noun sakinah letter was found, then it was followed by the letter “Baa”, so the ruling was iqlab.
-
Allah Almighty said: (وَالصَّاحِبِ بِالْجَنبِ), and here it is one of the forms of iqlab in the nun sakinah.
How Can I Apply for Iqlaab?
Iqlab in tajweed is one of the rulings of the noun sakinah and tanween, and it is known in the language as turning something away from its face. As for the terminology: qalb nun sakinah or tanween is a mime hidden by ghunna when it meets the baa.
And it can be defined as making a letter in place of another letter, taking into account the ghunna and ikhfaa in the first letter (the noun sakinah or the received tanween meem), as follows:
- It has only one letter, which is the baa’, so if the baa occurs after the noun of a word or two, or after the tanween and it is only from two words, then the noun or tanween must be turned into a meme and the rule here is Ikhfaa with ghunnah.
- And Its cause or reason is due to the ease of pronouncing the nun sakinah and tanween by turning them into a meme and hiding them in the baa.
- And the reason for iqlab in meem is because the meem unites with the letter baa in the mukhraj, and it is similar to the nun in ghunna, so it was the most suitable letter for iqlab.
- Moreover, his mark in the Holy Qur’an is the placement of a list meme (m) above the nun sakinah or tanween to denote it.
Does Iqlab Have Ghunnah?
Of course yes, the definition of iqlab in tajweed in is qalb of the noon sakinah or the tanween mima after the baa, taking into account the ghunnah in the letter.
To Summarise
Iqlab in tajweed is one of the rulings of the Noon Sakinah and Tanween, and it occurs because of the letter Baa, so the letter Noun is inverted into a meme when pronouncing it, and one of its forms is: that the iqlab occurs with the noun sakinah or Tanween letters in a word; One, such as Allah Almighty says:
(لَيُنْبَذَنَّ)
And His saying: (يُنْبِتُ), or in two separate words, such as the Almighty says: (مِن بَعْدِ), and the letter Baa may come after a consonant Noun. Moreover, iqlab tajweed may come after a fath, damming, or kasra as in his saying –
The Almighty -: (فَكَانَتْ هَبَاءً مُنْبَثًّا), or: (واللهُ سَمِيعٌ بَصِيرٌ),
and there are many examples of tajweed iqlab in the Holy Qur’an.
